Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui senyawa kimia kayu Marsegu (Nauclea orientalis L). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan selama 4 bulan di Laboratorium Kimia Universitas Hasanuddin Makassar. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan metode GCMS-Pyrolysis dengan alat kromotografi Shimadzu Pry- GCMS QP2010, sedangkan bahan utama dalam Penelitian ini adalah bahan utama satu batang kayu Marsegu (N. orientalis L.) sampel kayu Marsegu yang dipakai diperoleh dari hutan tanaman rakyat. Berumur ± 7 tahun dengan diameter 35 cm dan tinggi bebas cabang ± 8m. Hasil penelitian senyawa kimia yang terkandung dalam kayu Marsegu (N. orientalis L) pada tiga bagian batang yakni pangkal, tengah dan ujung menunjukkan bahwa terdapat senyawa terpenoid yakni jenis triterpenoid, minyak atsiri senyawa golongan fenol jenis fenol sederhana, asam fenolat, tanin dan flavonoid dan berpotensi sebagai tanaman obat.
